Originally from Northern Ontario, James obtained his B.Sc. (Psychology & Physiology, 2009) and Ph.D. (Neuroscience, 2016) from the University of Western Ontario, before completing postdoctoral training in cognitive neuroscience at the University of British Columbia. James is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Lakehead University.
Hafsa is a third year PhD student who is exploring how affect shapes the way we filter out information in cross-modal and multisensory environments.
Shahla studies the impact of architectural design on emotional response. She combines virtual reality environments and wearable psychophysiological sensors to present realistic worlds while monitoring autonomic response.
Martin focuses on the experience created by virtual environments. Specifically, he is studying how our reactions to individual objects are mediated by the feeling of realism, or presence, that these objects elicit.
Carlie investigates the impact of acute concussion on behavioural inhibition and relationship dynamics. Her work is a collaboration with the lab of Dr. James Kim.
Fatima investigates whether we have overlapping systems that underlie sensation for valence (e.g., affiliative touch, pain) and emotional responsiveness.
Katherine investigates how a life history of physical contact may shape our adult sensitivity to touch experiences.
Will is studying the relationship between loss aversion and risk of injury in sports.
Nicole is studying the interactions between tactile and auditory emotional appraisals.
